Presentation
The AKHIMA Mentoring Program will abide by the following
standards of responsibility.

Program is a partnership with the University of
Alaska Southeast HIM Program students and recent (within 1 year)
graduates and AKHIMA
-
Mentors and mentees complete online application
-
Mentors and mentees will be matched by the Program
Committee based on the interests identified by the applicants.

Matches will occur in April and October of each year
-
Committee will send a letter informing participants
of a successful match
-
Mentor and mentee will initiate the mentoring
process
-
Mentor training is available face to face at annual
AKHIMA meeting. Or as a web based module on the AKHIMA website.
-
E-mentoring is the ability to mentor via the
telephone, web, e-mail or any means deemed appropriate by both the
mentor and mentee and is an option in the program in Alaska.

One-to-one relationships will be maintained in the
program with a commitment of 12-months.

At the end of 6 months and one year both the mentor
and mentee will complete an evaluation of their experience.

The program is housed on the AKHIMA website with all
forms, surveys and documentation available in electronic format.

The AK Community of Practice forum on the AHIMA
website will be utilized to ask and receive answers to questions
that may be of interest to the general membership.
The Mentor in the AKHIMA Mentoring Program will abide by
the following standards of responsibility.

Must be a member of AKHIMA and AHIMA
-
Guide by word and example, always exhibiting
professional conduct

Commit to at least 12 months of mentorship

Check with mentee at least monthly and document
mentorship
-
Complete program evaluation survey at end of 6 and
12 months
-
Receive 4 Continuing Education Units at the end of
12 months of successful mentorship
-
Participate in mentor training which is available
face to face or as a web based module.

Monitor the AK Community of Practice forum on the
AHIMA website to answer general questions.
The Mentee in the AKHIMA Mentoring Program will abide by
the following standards of responsibility.

Must be a member of AKHIMA and AHIMA
-
Always exhibit professional conduct when associating
with mentor
-
Commit to at least 12 months of mentorship
-
Be available to mentor at least monthly
-
Complete program evaluation survey at end of 6 and
12 months
-
Participate in mentor training which is available
face to face or as a web based module.

Monitor the AK Community of Practice forum on the
AHIMA website to receive answers to general questions.
The Mentoring Program Committee Chair will abide by the
following standards of responsibility.

Each year compare the mentor list to the association
active membership to ensure mentor and mentee are active member of
the association.

Serve as lead to Committee to match mentors and
mentees based on areas of interest
-
Ensure program evaluation forms are completed and
analyzed
-
Maintain mentor website with updates and
announcements
-
Track and maintain continuing education credits for
mentors

Provide program training and evaluation
